We love the place, O God

by WILLIAM PENNEFATHER 1816-73

We love the place, O God
"I love the house where you live, O lord". Psalm 26:8.
We love the place, O God,
Wherein thine honor dwells:
The joy of thine abode,
All earthly joy excels.
It is the house of prayer,
Wherein thy servants meet;
And thou, O Lord, art there,
Thy chosen flock to greet.
We love the word of life,
The word that tells of peace,
Of comfort in the strife,
And joys that never cease.
We love to sing below
For mercies freely given;
But O we long to know
The triumph song of heaven!
Lord Jesus, give us grace,
On earth to love thee more,
In heaven to see thy face
And with thy saints adore.
WILLIAM BULLOCK, 1798-1874, and
Jesus, stand among us
"Jesus himself stood among them". Luke 24:36
Jesus, stand among us
In thy risen power;
Let this time of worship
Be a hallowed hour.
Breathe the Holy Spirit
Into every heart;
Bid the fears and sorrows
From each soul depart.
Thus with quickened footsteps
We'll pursue our way
Watching for the dawning
Of eternal day. Amen.
