Hark, the Glad Sound!

1. Hark, the glad sound! The Saviour comes
The Saviour promised long;
Let every heart exult with Joy,
And every voice be song!

2. He comes, the prisoner to relieve,
In satan’s bondage held;
The gates of brass before Him burst,
The iron fetters yield.

3. He comes, from darkening scales of vice
To clear the inward sight;
And on the eye balls of the blind
To pour celestial light.

4. He comes, the broken hearts to bind,
The bleeding souls to cure;
And with the treasures of His grace
To enrich the humble poor.

5. Tis good that we with all our hearts,
Receive this word of Joy;
Tis good that we should sing with glad
Jesus our Lord is come.

6. He comes, the heart to fill with Joy
The heart of his loved ones
He comes, to bless and to restore
That which is good with us.

7. Let every man, to Christ, rejoice.
And sing his greater love;
He has bestowed upon us all.
By His life and His death.

8. Our glad hosannas, prince of peace,
Thy welcome shall proclaim;
And heaven’s exalted arches ring.
With Thy most honoured Name.
